A dynasty in central-western India. Taking advantage of the decline of the Pratihara dynasty, it gained independence in the Malwa region in the 10th century. During the time of the ninth king, Bhoja, it allied with neighboring Hindu kings to fight against Islamic invasions, but in its later years it was defeated by the combined forces of Chedi and Gujarat (1053) and subsequently declined, eventually falling into ruin in the 14th century. Bhoja kings are also known as patrons of the arts and literature. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
