One of the New Year's events held on the 6th of the New Year. In some regions, it is called Kami no toshi-koshi, Onna no toshi-koshi, Uma no toshi-koshi, etc. The events held on this night are often similar to those held on New Year's Eve. In some regions, barley rice is eaten, and a river crab is skewered on a chigaya stick and placed in the doorway. In some regions, a sign with "Somin Shorai" written on it is hung in the doorway. In some regions, a branch of a thorny tree such as holly is placed in the doorway, and in some regions, a crab is eaten and its scissors are placed in the doorway, which is called Kani toshi-tori. In addition, on this night, the seven herbs to be used in the next day's seven-herb rice porridge are placed on a cutting board and smashed with a knife in front of the Shinto altar while chanting "Seven herbs shepherd's purse, Todo no tori to Nihon no tori to wataranusaki saki ni..." This event was also held in Tokyo until recent years. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
