A former town in Kanoashi County, western Shimane Prefecture. Occupying the upper reaches of the Takatsu River, the town is home to the main settlements of Muikaichi and Nanukaichi along the river, both of which developed as market towns. The Chugoku Expressway passes through the town. The town's main industries are agriculture and forestry, and it produces rice, vegetables, and flowers. It is also active in the production of shiitake mushrooms and wasabi. In October 2005, it merged with Kakigi Village in Kanoashi County to become Yoshiga Town in Kanoashi County. Area: 198.57 km2 . 島根県西部,鹿足(かのあし)郡の旧町。高津川上流域を占め,川沿いの六日市,七日市が主集落で,ともに市場町として発達。中国自動車道が通じる。農林業を主とし,米,野菜,花木を産する。シイタケ,ワサビなどの生産も活発。2005年10月,鹿足郡柿木村と合併し町制,鹿足郡吉賀町となる。198.57km2。5927人(2003)。
