A mountain range stretching from northwest to southeast in northern Sichuan, China, on the border with Gansu. It is also read as "Binzan." To the west, it joins the Aniemachen (Amnemachin) Mountains across the Yellow River, and to the east, it borders the Mican Mountains across the Jialing River. It is the source of the Min and Jialing Rivers of the Yangtze River system. It is a plateau-like mountainous area at an altitude of about 4,000 meters, where livestock farming is well developed, and the vast Songpan Grassland, with its many grasslands and marshes, spreads out at the southwest foot of the mountains. In 1935, the Chinese Red Army passed through the marshes on their Long March and headed north, crossing the Minshan Mountains. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
