...With the establishment of a centralized organization that began in 1905, by 1912 the party had an organization in all 397 electoral districts, and in the Imperial Diet elections of 1912 the party won 34.8% of the vote and 110 of the 397 seats, becoming the largest party. The party had local organs (90 daily newspapers in 1913), including the central organ newspaper Vorwärts (Forward) (160,000 subscribers in 1914), and the theoretical organ Die Neue Zeit (New Era) (founded in 1883, edited by Kautsky until 1917) had a circulation of over 10,000 in 1911. In addition, the Free Trade Unions (Freie Gewerkschaften), which were essentially established in 1890, maintained close ties with the Social Democratic Party and grew into a centralized, industrial organization, with 2.5 million members by 1913.
