Polypetalous flower - Ribenka

A term used in contrast to sympetalous flowers, referring to flowers with a polypetalous corolla. Polypetalous flowers have separate petals, and are considered to be a lower evolutionary stage than sympetalous flowers. They are the most important characteristic of the polypetalous flowers Apopetalae, Choripetalae, or Archichlamydeae.

合弁花に対する語で、離弁花冠をもった花をいう。離弁花では花弁が離生しており、進化のうえからは合弁花よりも低い段階とされ、離弁花類Apopetalae, Choripetalaeまたは古生花被(かひ)類Archichlamydeaeのもっとも重要な特徴である。
