Although much about its founding is unclear, it is said that the third Ichimura Uzaemon inherited the performance rights of the Murayama Theater, which was founded by Murayama Matasaburo in 1634 (Kan'ei 11), and that it was founded around 1667 (Kanbun 7). Legend has it that it was the first theater to perform Tsudoki Kyogen (Ichimura Theater History Book, written in the 10th year of the Kyoho era), and it is also said to have started using props and picture signs, and is considered to have made remarkable progress during the period of Yaro Kabuki.... He was active during the Kanbun and Enpo eras (1661-81), and according to the Ichimura-za History Book (Kyoho 10th year book), he performed three consecutive kyogen plays with Tamagawa Shuzen as head of the Ichimura-za in 1664 (Kanbun 4).
