Written by Iruman (Iruma) Fukansai Habian, a Japanese Jesuit who was a former Zen monk and later became a Christian. 3 volumes. Written in 1605. A doctrine book for Christians. It features two nuns, Myoshu and Yutei, and describes the process in which Yutei answers Myoshu's questions and converts him to Christianity. The first volume criticizes Buddhism, the second volume denounces Shintoism and Confucianism, and the third volume seeks to clarify Christian doctrine. Although its name appears in the Razan Bunshu, it has not been found and was long thought to be a lost book, but was discovered in the Jingu Bunko in 1918. Although the section on Buddhism in the first volume is missing, it has been revealed by Masaharu Anesaki that a similar section can be found in the Buddhist law debate in the Kansei Confiscation Letter. There is also a French translation by P. Ambelclaude. (→Hatei Ushi) Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
