Myotsu-ji Temple

Located in Monzen, Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, this temple is of the Omuro school of the Shingon sect. Its name is Yuzurizan. At the beginning of the Heian period, at the request of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, various halls were constructed and the principal image of the temple, Yakushi Nyorai, was enshrined. It later suffered a fire, but in the Kamakura period, Raizen, who is revered for his restoration, came and built the main hall (Yakushido), three-story pagoda, Niomon gate, and other structures. It later gained the strong reverence of samurai as a place of prayer, and the temple prospered. Currently, the temple has a main hall, a three-story pagoda (both national treasures from the Kamakura period), a Bentendo hall, a Niomon gate, a bell tower, and a guest hall. Temple treasures include wood carvings of Yakushi Nyorai from the late Heian period, Gozanze Myo-o, Acala, and Jinja Taisho, six volumes of the Hikohohodemi-no-Mikoto Scroll (a city-designated cultural property), and ancient documents.

福井県小浜(おばま)市門前にある真言(しんごん)宗御室(おむろ)派の寺。棡山(ゆずりざん)と号する。平安時代の初め坂上田村麻呂(さかのうえのたむらまろ)の発願で、諸堂が建立され、本尊薬師如来(にょらい)を安置した。その後火災にあったが、鎌倉時代に中興と仰がれる頼禅がきて、本堂（薬師堂）、三重塔、仁王(におう)門などを造営。のち祈願所として武家の尊信が厚く、寺門が繁栄した。現在、本堂・三重塔（ともに国宝、鎌倉時代）、弁天堂、仁王門、鐘楼、客殿などがあり、寺宝には平安後期の薬師如来、降三世(ごうざんぜ)明王、不動明王、深沙(じんじゃ)大将の木彫、『彦火々出見尊(ひこほほでみのみこと)絵巻』（市指定文化財）六巻、古文書などがある。
