Lake Miyazaki
Year of death: August 9, 1922
Year of birth: September 20, 1864 (October 20, 1864)
A Meiji era poet and novelist. The third son of Nihei and Chika. Born in Minagi, Shimoza County, Chikuzen Province (Fukuoka Prefecture). His real name was Yaokichi. After attending Kunao Elementary School and Fukuoka Middle School, he moved to Tokyo and entered the political science department of Tokyo Senmon Gakko (Waseda University). He was baptized while still a student. After graduation, he was recognized by Tokutomi Soho and joined Minyusha. In 1891 (Meiji 24), he published a unique novel, "Return Home," set in his hometown of Minagi, mixing beautiful essay-like prose with new-style poetry, and gained a reputation as a writer. He studied under Wordsworth, W. and Tao Yuanming, and published "Collection of Poems by Koshoko" in 1891. In 1903, he edited "Lyric Poems." This is a collection of poems by six people, including Kunikida Doppo and Tayama Katai, and includes 26 of Koshoko's own works. This was the time when the poet Kotoko Ko was recognized, and she soon became enthusiastic about Christian missionary work, publishing novels, critiques, and translations, but she did not receive much attention. Her works include Maboroshi (1892). <References> Kindai Shishu I (Modern Japanese Literature Series, Vol. 53)
