Flamininus, Titus Quinctius
[Born] Around 227 B.C.
[Died] 174 BC. Rome. Roman soldier and politician. He was favorable to Greece, and in 198 BC, he allied with the Achaean League to fight against Philip V of Macedonia. He made concessions and proclaimed freedom for the Greeks at Corinth in 196 BC. He was praised by the Greeks as a savior and worshipped alongside the gods. In 192 BC, he traveled east again, fighting against Nabis, King of Sparta, and Antiochus III, King of Syria, to defend the Achaean League. In 183 BC, he was an envoy to Prusias, King of Bithynia, to demand the surrender of Hannibal. He served as consul (198 BC) and prefect of the household (189 BC), and was a skilled diplomat, and adopted a liberal policy that supported Greek autonomy.
