An Imperial Court event held on the 18th of the New Year, the day after the Jiyarai (Ceremonial Archery). It is also written as Kakekyu. Kake means to gamble for a prize. It was first recorded in 824 (Tencho 1) during the reign of Emperor Junna. The Left and Right Konoe Offices hold preliminary training called Tetsugai and Manateyui on the 9th, 11th, 13th, etc. On the day, the Emperor appears at the Archery Hall, and the Konoe and Hei are divided into two groups to shoot. Ten Konoe and seven Hei are assigned. In the case of the Left and Right Konoe, one person from each side takes part in each round, and the match consists of 10 rounds. Each round is shot three times. 射礼(じやらい)の翌日の正月18日におこなう宮廷行事。賭弓とも記す。賭は賞を賭(か)けること。淳和天皇の824年(天長1)を文献上の初見とする。左右近衛府で荒手結(てつがい),真手結と称する下稽古を9日,11日,13日などにおこなう。当日,天皇は弓場殿に出御し,近衛,兵衛が分かれて射る。近衛10人,兵衛7人が充てられる。左右近衛の場合,1番ごとに左右各1人ずつ出て,10番勝負する。勝負は1番ごとに3度射つ。
