A deciduous tall tree of the Betula family, also known as Mizume and Yogusominebari. It grows in mountainous areas in various regions. The branches are shiny purple-brown with scattered lenticels. When the bark is peeled off, it gives off the odor of methyl salicylate (salomethyl). This characteristic is somewhat known throughout the Betula genus, but is particularly strong in this species. The leaves are pointed, oval, 6-10 cm long, and have fine sawtooth edges. The wood is hard and dense, making it used for craft and decorative materials.
