Miyazaki Shrine

Japanese:
Miyazaki Shrine

It is located in Miyazaki City's Jingu Shrine. The main deity is Emperor Kamu Yamato Iwarehiko (Emperor Jinmu), with Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto and Tamayorihime no Mikoto worshiped as companion deities. The shrine has a grounds of about 25 hectares in the northern part of Miyazaki city. According to the shrine's legend, Emperor Jinmu's grandson Takeiwatatsu no Mikoto (the deity of Aso Shrine) became the guardian deity of Tsukushi, and the shrine was founded when Emperor Jinmu's spirit was enshrined there after he moved to his new capital. Since ancient times, it has been called Jinmu Tenno Miya or Jinmu Tennosha, but in 1873 (Meiji 6) it was renamed Miyazaki Shrine, and at the same time it was ranked as a prefectural shrine, and in 1875 it was ranked as a national shrine of medium rank, and in 1878 the shrine name was changed to Miyazakimiya. In 1885 it was promoted to a Kanpei Taisha, and in 1913 (Taisho 2) it was renamed Miyazaki Jingu. The annual festival is held on October 26th, and the Shinko Festival is held on the Saturday and Sunday following the festival.
