Koya, and after serving as the chief priest of Toji Temple and the chief priest of Todaiji Temple, he was appointed the first chief priest of Toji Temple in 1031 (Chogen 4), and in 1038 (Choreki 2) became a sojo. He was called Ono Sojo after the Ono region, and because he excelled in the rain-making sutra teachings handed down by Genko and excelled in the rituals of praying for rain, he was universally praised as Rain Sojo.
