A town in Kitamorokata County in southern Miyazaki Prefecture. The main settlement is in the eastern part of the Miyakonojo Basin, and is on the Nippon Main Line. Most of the area is forest and wilderness, but rice, tea, and tobacco are cultivated on the alluvial fan. Wasabi and watermelon are local specialties. Livestock is also raised. Area: 110.02 km2 . 宮崎県南部,北諸県(きたもろかた)郡の町。主集落は都城(みやこのじょう)盆地の東部にあり,日豊(にっぽう)本線が通じる。大部分は山林原野であるが,扇状地上では米作のほか,茶,タバコを栽培。ワサビ,スイカを特産。畜産もある。110.02km2。2万4800人(2010)。
