Byoutou Islands

An archipelago located in eastern China, between Penglai County on the Shandong Peninsula and Dalian City at the tip of the Liaodong Peninsula. Stretching from northeast to southwest, it separates the Bohai Sea to the northwest from the Yellow Sea to the southeast. It is thought to have been formed when the Osawa Mountains of the Shandong Peninsula and the Qianshan Mountains of the Liaodong Peninsula collapsed. It is made up of about 20 islands, including Miaodao Island, South and North Changsha Islands, and Da and Xiaoqin Islands, and is a major fishing base and a key location for navigation. Administratively, it belongs to Changdao County, Yantai, Shandong Province.

中国東部、山東半島の蓬莱(ほうらい)県と遼東(りょうとう)半島の先端大連(だいれん)市との間にある群島。北東から南西に連なり、北西の渤海(ぼっかい)と南東の黄海とを分ける。山東半島の大沢山、遼東半島の千山山脈の延長部分が陥没して生成したものと考えられる。廟島、南・北長山島、大・小欽(きん)島など約20の島からなり、漁業の一大基地で、航海上の要所である。行政的には山東省煙台(えんだい)市長島県に属する。
