〘名〙① 山肌にあらわになった大岩などで、音をよく反響させるもの。言葉石。響き石。ものいい石。おうむいし。※随筆・輶軒小録（1736頃）「一の大岩石山の半腹に偃然たり。即鸚鵡石也。〈略〉其岩の上に居て云へば、彼石も亦人の言ふ如く対ふるなり。謡を諷ひ、皷を打ち、三弦など弾ずれば、石も亦夫々の音をなし、ささやけばささやく声をなす。わめけばわめく声をなす」② 孔雀石(くじゃくいし)の一種。薄い黄緑色をしたもので、酸で溶解し、笙(しょう)の簧(した)に塗る。おうむいし。〔雲林石譜‐下・鸚鵡石〕③ 歌舞伎の名科白(めいせりふ)を抜き書きした小冊子。役者の声色を習うためのもので、公演ごとに売り出された。声色本。おうむ。おうむいし。※滑稽本・旧観帖（1805‐09）初「鸚鵡石(アフムセキ)を見て能く口真似をすれども」④ 人の言ったことをそっくり真似て言うこと。また、他人の説を受け売りすること。※当世書生気質（1885‐86）〈坪内逍遙〉一〇「先刻桐山から聞いた事をば、全然(まるきり)鸚鵡石(アウムセキ)で喋口(しゃべ)りたてる」
