Lycoptera - Lycoptera

A fish of the genus Lycoptera in the order Lycoptera of the order Teleostei, subdivision Arowana, class of Osteichthyes. Fossils have been found in strata from the late Jurassic to the early Cretaceous of the Mesozoic era in eastern Asia. It is the most primitive group of teleostei, and was previously placed in the order Clupeiformes and Leptolepis. It is characterized by a dorsal fin located backward and near the top of the anal fin, a parasphenoid bone with teeth and a single throat plate, and a primitive tail skeleton with the rear end of the vertebrae pointing upward. The closely related modern Arowana fish inhabits freshwaters in the warm and tropical regions around the world. The order Lycoptera and modern Hyodontiformes have a Eurolensian distribution, while other Osteoglossiform fishes have a Gondwanan distribution. About 10 species of Lycoptera have been reported from China.

硬骨魚綱真骨上目アロワナ亜区リコプテラ目リコプテラ属の魚類。アジア東部の中生代ジュラ紀後期から白亜紀前期にかけての地層から化石が発見されている。真骨類でももっとも原始的な一群で、以前はニシン目やレプトレピス目に入れられていた。背びれが後方にあり臀(しり)びれの上方近くにあること、副蝶(ちょう)形骨に歯があり1個の喉板(こうばん)があること、尾部骨格が原始的で脊椎(せきつい)の後端が上向きになっていることなどが特徴である。近縁な現生のアロワナ目は世界各地の暖帯・熱帯の淡水に生息している。リコプテラ目と現生のヒオドン目はユーロレンシア型分布であるが、他のオステオグロッスム目魚類はゴンドワナ型分布である。中国からは約10種類のリコプテラが報告されている。
