Also called "Ninna." A general term for the territorial states that Japan (Wa) held in the southern part of the Korean peninsula from the 4th to 6th centuries. Documents confirm that Japan had relations with the Korean peninsula during the Lelang and Daifang commandery periods (108 BC to 313 AD). In the 4th century, Goguryeo moved south and captured the Lelang commandery, and Daifang commandery was destroyed by the Han and Wi tribes around the same time. In the middle of the same century, Baekje was founded in the west and Silla was founded in the east. According to the Nihon Shoki, in order to gain an advantageous position in the peninsula, Japan sent a large army around 370 to bring the small states in the southern part of the peninsula under its control, and established the so-called "Mimana." The expression "Mimana Nihonfu" in the Nihon Shoki should not be interpreted as a later governor-general's office. After the 5th century, Mimana was divided due to instability in the Yamato government and the advances of Baekje and Silla, and was eventually destroyed in the 23rd year of the reign of Emperor Kinmei (562).
