Japanese: 南方[町] - みなみかた

A former town in Tome District, northern Miyagi Prefecture. It occupies the lowlands of the Hasama River basin, with extensive rice paddies and livestock farming and vegetable cultivation. A project to convert the low-lying marshes in the southwestern part of the town into dry paddy fields has been underway. In April 2005, it merged with Hasama Town, Tome Town, Towa Town, Nakata Town, Toyosato Town, Yoneyama Town, Ishigoe Town in Tome District, and Tsuyama Town in Motoyoshi District to become a city, Tome City. 40.26 ^km2 . 9,511 people (2003).

宮城県北部，登米(とめ)郡の旧町。迫(はさま)川流域の低地を占め，水田が広く，畜産，野菜栽培も行う。南西部の低湿地は乾田化事業が進められた。2005年４月登米郡迫町，登米町，東和町，中田町，豊里町，米山町，石越町，本吉郡津山町と合併し市制，登米市となる。40.26km²。9511人（2003）。
