Valentin Vladimirovich Ovechkin

Soviet author. Born in Taganrog in southern Russia. He started out as a Komsomol cell secretary, then worked in an agricultural commune (kommune) and in party-related work, and pioneered the method of ocherk (documentary literature) which sought to express reality based on his experiences. His early works include Kolkhoz Tales (1935) and Praskovya Maksimovna (1939), as well as Greetings from the Front (1945), which depicts life in rural areas and kolkhozes after World War II, and the series Everyday Life in the District (1952-56), which is considered a masterpiece of ocherk literature.

ソ連邦の作家。南ロシアのタガンログ生れ。コムソモール細胞書記をふりだしに，農業コミューン(コムーナ)や党関係の仕事に従事，この体験をもとに現実を表現しようとするオーチェルク(記録文学)の方法を開拓。初期の《コルホーズ物語》(1935)，《プラスコービヤ･マクシーモブナ》(1939)をはじめ，第2次大戦後の農村とコルホーズ生活を描いた《前線からの挨拶》(1945)，オーチェルク文学の傑作といわれる連作《地区の日常》(1952‐56)等の作品がある。
