A sutra written with gold powder dissolved in glue. It is generally written in gold or silver characters on dark blue paper called konshi kinin, and was used not only in Japan and China but also in Tibet. There are also copies written with gold and silver alternating. In Japan, the oldest known sutra is the Golden Light Sutra at Ryūkōin Temple on Mount Koya (8th century), and during the Nara period, a specialized office called the Kinji Sutra Office was even established.
