Onam - Onam

...There are many festivals held throughout the year, including the spring festival Holi (February-March) in honor of various gods, Durga Puja (September-October), a festival in honor of the goddess Durga that is especially popular in Bengal, Dashahara (October), which commemorates Prince Rama's defeat of the demon Ravana, and Diwali (October-November), a festival of lights in honor of the goddess Lakshmi. In addition to these, there are regional festivals such as Onam, the harvest festival in Kerala, and Pongal, the harvest festival in South India. Hari Katha and Pravachana, in which sacred texts such as the Mahabharata are recited and explained with music, are also held throughout India.
