One of the high-permeability alloys among magnetic materials. An iron alloy containing 9.5% silicon and 5.5% aluminum, it exhibits high permeability comparable to permalloy and also has a high saturation magnetic flux density. It is very hard and brittle, and cannot be processed by forging or rolling. This alloy was announced by Masumoto Ryo and Yamamoto Tatsuji in 1937, and was discovered in Sendai (Tohoku University), and is said to have been given this name because it is easy to make into powder (dust). 磁性材料のうちの高透磁率合金の一つ。ケイ素9.5%,アルミニウム5.5%を含む鉄合金で,パーマロイに匹敵する高い透磁率を示し,また飽和磁束密度も高い。非常に硬くてもろく,鍛造や圧延などの加工はできない。1937年に増本量,山本達治によって発表された合金で,仙台市(東北大学)で発見され,粉(ダスト)にしやすいことから,この名が付けられたといわれる。粉にして圧し固めて同調コイルなどの磁心として使われてきた。
