A town in Onga County in northern Fukuoka Prefecture. Occupying the right bank of the downstream Onga River, this old rice paddy farming village developed into a coal mining town in the mid-Meiji period, and the Kagoshima Main Line runs through it. The Nittan Takamatsu Mine was a major mine in the Chikuho coalfields, but closed in 1971. In recent years, many people commute to the Kitakyushu industrial area. 11.01 km2 .
