Right angle

Angle when two straight lines intersect at a right angle. In other words, when straight lines l and m intersect at a point O, defining four angles, and l is folded back with respect to m , all four angles are equal and are called right angles. A right angle may also be defined as half of a straight angle. In other words, when two adjacent angles ∠XOP and ∠YOP that share a vertex O are complementary angles (i.e., when XOP is a straight line), if ∠XOP = ∠YOP, then ∠XOP or ∠YOP is called a right angle and is represented by the symbol ∠R. In other words, ∠XOP = ∠YOP = ∠R. A right angle is 90 degrees (90°) when measured in degrees, and π/2 when measured in radians.

2直線が直交するときの角。すなわち，直線 l と直線 m が1点O で交わり，4個の角を定め，m に関して l を折返したときに l に重なる場合，この4つの角はすべて等しく，これを直角という。また，直角は平角の半分と定義してもよい。言い換えれば，頂点O を共有する隣合った2つの角 ∠XOP ，∠YOP が互いに補角をなすとき (つまり XOP が直線になるとき) ，∠XOP＝∠YOP ならば，∠XOP または ∠YOP は直角といわれ，記号 ∠R で表わす。すなわち ∠XOP＝∠YOP＝∠R である。直角は角度ではかれば 90度 (90゜) ，またラジアンではかれば π/2 である。
