Water Resources Development Public Corporation

Japanese: 水資源開発公団 - みずしげんかいはつこうだん

It was established on May 1, 1962 as a government special corporation that implements projects for the development or utilization of water resources in "water resource development river systems" designated based on the Water Resources Development Promotion Law (promulgated in 1961). As of the end of 1983, the designated river systems that were deemed to require urgent implementation of wide-area water use measures were the Tone River system, the Arakawa River system, the Yodo River system, the Chikugo River system, the Kiso River system, and the Yoshino River system. For these river systems, "basic plans for water resource development" have been decided, and the Water Resources Development Public Corporation is constructing and managing dams, weirs, lake development, irrigation channels, etc. based on these plans.

水資源開発促進法(1961公布)を根拠に指定される〈水資源開発水系〉における水資源の開発または利用のための事業を実施する政府特殊法人として，1962年5月1日設立された。83年末現在，広域的な用水対策を緊急に実施する必要があると認められている指定水系は，利根川水系および荒川水系，淀川水系，筑後川水系，木曾川水系，吉野川水系である。これらの水系においては，〈水資源開発基本計画〉が決定され，この計画により水資源開発公団がダム，堰，湖沼開発，用水路などの建設や管理を行っている。
