〘Noun〙 (formerly also called "Gyo-gei") A respectful term for the outing of the three empresses, Grand Empress Dowager, Empress Dowager, and Empress, or the Crown Prince, Crown Princess, and Crown Prince's Heir. *Shogoki - May 5, 982, Tengen 5, "Daifu ga ren ka , seki ni gyōkai teki teki ni gyōkai teki teki" *Makura (end of 10th century) 88 "The Empress's daytime outing. There was a person there." [Etymology] (1) From the mid-Heian period onwards, it was used as an outing with the character of an official ceremony, along with the "Gyōko" of the Emperor, and the "Gyō" of the Retired Emperor, Cloistered Emperor, and Empress Dowager. The words "Gyōko" and "Gyō" can be found in Chinese documents, but "Gyōkai" has never been found, and it may be a Japanese-made Chinese word. (2) As for the reading, "Heike Masabushi - Enjomono" reads it as "gyau-gei" using the voiced vowels, but "Heike Monogatari Shinansho" reads it as "Gyaukei Ikeiteke no ji sumitaru yoshi , nigorashi", so it is thought that there were two readings, "gyau-gei" and "gyau-kei". In addition, "Myomokusho" shows both readings. Source: The Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary About the Selected Edition of the Japanese Language Dictionary Information |
