A device that measures the light transmittance (or reflectance) of a very small object or a very small part of an object. This includes devices that measure the darkness of each part of the spectrum on a dry plate using a spectrograph of a light source taken with a spectrograph, as well as microspectroscopic devices that perform optical qualitative or quantitative analysis of small crystals, intracellular substances, and other things. The light from a light source is made monochromatic using an appropriate color filter or monochromator, and then focused into a narrow beam of light through a pinhole. Using the microscope's optical system in reverse, the light passes through the eyepiece and forms a reduced image of the pinhole at the end of the objective lens.
