Born: May 29, 1897 in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port
Died September 28, 1955. A French priest from Tokyo. He came to Japan in 1925 as a member of the Catholic Paris Foreign Missions Society. As the first principal of the Catholic Seminary, he trained Japanese priests. He served in the army during World War II and was seriously injured. He returned to Japan in 1948 and taught at the Institute of French-Japanese Studies and the University of the Sacred Heart. He gave many lectures in fluent and fluent Japanese and left behind many excellent Japanese writings. He also founded the "Banseikai" (Evening Study Group) and deepened his interactions with non-Christian intellectuals. His major works include "Travels of Thought" (1952) and "Eternal Masterpieces" (55). His pen names were Kando and Karita Sumi.

フランス人司祭。カトリックのパリ外国宣教会士として 1925年来日。カトリック大神学校初代校長として邦人司祭を養成。第2次世界大戦に従軍，重傷を負う。 48年再び来日し，日仏学院，聖心女子大学で教え，流暢，達意の日本語で多くの講演を行い，またすぐれた日本語の著作を残した。さらに「晩成会」をつくり，キリスト者でない知識人との交流を深めた。主著には『思想の旅』 (1952) ，『永遠の傑作』 (55) など。筆名は，貫道，苅田澄。
