This stone is mined near Tatsuyama in Iho Town, Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is also known as Tatsuyama Stone or Hoden Stone. It is a dark gray quartz trachyte tuff, and is classified as white stone, blue stone, red stone, and fuseishi. It is used as a building stone because it is resistant to fire, heat, and freezing, acid, and does not easily weather. It was also used for the "Stone Treasure Hall" of Oushi Shrine in Takasago City, and is said to have been used for stone coffins and ancient tombs during the Yamato Imperial Court period.
