A former town in Kami County, central Kochi Prefecture. The main settlement, Yamada, is a valley-mouth settlement that developed on the west bank of the Monobe River in the northern part of the Kacho Plain, and is connected to the Tosan Line. Rice farming, flower and vegetable cultivation are thriving here. Ryuga Cave is located in the eastern part of the town. In March 2006, it was incorporated as a city by merging with Kohoku Town and Monobe Village in Kami County to form Kami City. Area: 116.46 km2 . Population: 21,732 (2003). 高知県中部,香美(かみ)郡の旧町。主集落の山田は香長(かちょう)平野北部の物部川西岸に発達した谷口集落で,土讃線が通じる。米作,花木・野菜の栽培が盛ん。東部に竜河(りゅうが)洞がある。2006年3月,香美郡香北町,物部村と合併し市制,香美市となる。116.46km2。2万1732人(2003)。
