Also known as magana. A phonetic way of writing Japanese, discarding the meanings of Chinese characters and using only sounds. Ongana, which borrow the sounds of the characters, are called otogana, and yama (mountain) is written as yamama and utsusemi as utsuzane. Kunkana, which borrow Japanese readings, are called kunkana, and yamato (Yamato) is written as hachikanato and natsukashi (nostalgia) is written as natsugashi. They have been used to write proper nouns since the 6th century, and in songs and letters since the 8th century. They were given this name because of the variety of uses in the Man'yoshu. Generally, they are simple characters with one stroke per character. In the 9th century, hiragana and katakana were invented from Man'yogana, but formal Chinese books used them for a long time to write Japanese phonetically. → Special Kana spelling in the ancient period → Related topics Oya Toru | Kana | Kana spelling in Okuyamaji | Kana text | Kanji | Koto song score | Kunten | Shinsen Jikyo | Shinsen Manyoshu | Imperial decree | Cursive kana | Nihonki Kyoen Waka | Phonetic characters | Waji Seiransho | Wamyoruijusho Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
