(Post-marriage) residence rules are related to where a married couple will live after marriage, and include (1) virilocal, where the husband lives with his parents' family or in their vicinity; (2) uxorilocal, where the wife lives with the wife's family; (3) ambilocal, where the husband or wife chooses whichever is more convenient; (4) neolocal, where the couple will live away from their respective natal homes; (5) avunculocal, where the husband lives with his maternal uncle; and (6) duolocal, where the husband and wife do not live together. In the past, (1) was also called patrilocal, (2) matrilocal, and (3) bilocal.
