A general term for birds of the genus Pomatorhinus and related genera in the family Muscicapidae, subfamily Pomatorinae, order Passeriformes. Approximately 15 species are found in South Asia, New Guinea, and Australia. All species are 15-25 cm long and have a brownish overall plumage with black or gray markings. The beak is quite long and curved downward. The legs are also relatively long and strong. They live in shrubs, forest edges, and bamboo thickets, and feed on insects while moving on the ground and through the bushes. Their song is not very well developed. スズメ目ヒタキ科チメドリ亜科マルハシ属Pomatorhinusおよび近縁属の鳥の総称。約15種が南アジア,ニューギニア,オーストラリアに分布する。全長15~25cm,どの種も全体に褐色系のじみな羽色をしており,黒色や灰色の斑紋がある。くちばしはかなり長く,下に湾曲している。脚も比較的長くてがんじょうである。低木林,林縁,竹やぶなどにすみ,地上や茂みの中を移動しながら昆虫をとって食べる。さえずりはあまりよく発達していないらしい。
