Born: Around 1260. Lyon-Laforet
[Died] 1315.4.11/30. Montfaucon French politician and financier. He served King Philip IV of France and was highly valued for his work in reforming the coinage and other areas of the royal finances. He was at the height of his power as chancellor from 1313 to 1314, but was the target of hatred as a party to the execution of King Philip IV, and had many enemies at court and among the nobility. After the death of the king, he was indicted by his political enemies, including the king's brother Charles de Valois, on about 30 charges, including bribery and witchcraft, and was executed by hanging.

フランスの政治家，財政家。フランス王フィリップ4世に仕えて重用され，貨幣改鋳その他王家財政の充実に敏腕をふるった。 1313～14年頃宰相として権勢の絶頂をきわめたが，誅求の当事者として恨みの的となり，宮廷や貴族のなかに敵対者が多かった。王の死後，収賄，魔法その他およそ 30の罪名で王弟シャルル・ド・バロア以下の政敵に訴追され，絞首刑に処せられた。
