Hyde, T. (English spelling) HydeT

...Generally, it refers to the position that teaches that fundamental reality exists as two opposing entities, and is opposed to monism as a kind of pluralism. The original word originated when the British Orientalist Thomas Hyde used it in his History of the Religion of the Ancient Persians (1700) to refer to a religious system in which the principles of good and evil are in perpetual conflict. It was then used exclusively in relation to religion in the entry for Zoroaster in P. Bayle's Dictionary of Historical Criticism (2nd edition, 1702), and in Leibniz's Theogony, Part II (1710).
