A town in Ayauta County, Kagawa Prefecture, facing the Seto Inland Sea. The town's center is an old port town, where Takamatsu Domain's rice storehouse was once located, and where visitors to Kotohira Shrine would land. Since the Meiji period, the town has flourished as a salt-producing town, but the salt fields were abandoned in 1971, and urban development is proceeding on the site, centered around Utazu Station. 香川県綾歌(あやうた)郡,瀬戸内海に面する町。中心は古い港町で,かつて高松藩の米倉があり,金刀比羅(ことひら)宮参拝客の上陸地であった。明治以降製塩の町として栄えたが,1971年塩田が廃され,跡地では宇多津駅を中心とする都市開発が進む。予讃線,瀬戸大橋線が通じる。8.10km2。1万8434人(2010)。
