1910‐68 Swedish poet. His collection of sonnets, 14 lines written in capital letters and without punctuation, The Pathless (1942), surprised readers with its unusual form and the incomprehensibility of its content. The abruptness and dissonance of the images evoked by his poems gradually diminishes in his later poetry collections, Attendants (1947) and Winter's Sacrifices (1954), in which a kind of musicality can be sensed, but they remain difficult to understand. He was elected a member of the Academy in 1962. [Tanaka Michio] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
