A great contributor to Danish gymnastics. Born in Snajbjerg. Worked as a sailor and farmer. At the age of 28, he entered the gymnastics school in Copenhagen, where he learned medical gymnastics and massage. He led the Danish mass gymnastics at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, winning a silver medal. In 1920, he founded the Ollerup Gymnastics School. He invented the "basic gymnastics" based on the idea that the power born from a harmonious and beautiful body would make Denmark strong and rich by freeing the farmers from their mental helplessness and physical stiffness. He led an elite team to demonstrate this "basic gymnastics", traveling around the world and working to popularize Danish gymnastics. He also came to Japan and performed the "basic gymnastics". The performance made a strong impression, and Danish gymnastics took root in Japan, where it is still being studied and passed down today. Unlike traditional gymnastics that involve stillness, this is a fast-paced exercise that is performed without rest, and is considered to be the prototype of modern gymnastics.
