Sangiran

…The layer where the fossil was excavated is the lower part of the Kabu Formation, so it is thought to be slightly older than 700,000 years ago. Later, in 1937, a similar skull cap was discovered in Sangiran near Surakarta, and was announced by GHR von Königswald as Pithecanthropus II. Since then, more and more human fossils have been discovered in Sangiran, and up to now, Pithecanthropus VIII has been reported. …

From [Meganthropus]

...A hominoid fossil from the end of the early Pleistocene, about 1 million years ago, discovered on the island of Java in Indonesia. Two mandible fragments discovered in 1939 and 1941 in the Pechagan Formation of Sangiran, known as a source of human fossils, were unusually large compared to previously known Pithecanthropus, so G. von Königswald, the discoverer, considered them to be a new genus and species and named them M. palaeojavanicus .
