1. The gabled roof wall (the side that meets the ridge at a right angle). In particular, this wall is extended higher than the roof and a small roof is added. It was mainly seen in town houses in the Kinki region. It was considered a symbol of the status of the house, and those covered with tiles and plaster helped to prevent fire and wind. ➁ A beam that is erected between the ridge and beams of a house.
