A city located in central Osaka Prefecture, occupying the left bank of the Yamato River in the Osaka Plain. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. It has long been developed as farmland, and is home to ancient tombs and the ruins of Emperor Hanzei's Tachihi no Shibagaki Palace. It developed around Matsubara and Tenbi, which are on the Kintetsu Minami Osaka Line, and is home to thriving industries such as textiles and metal machinery. The surrounding area is a supplier of vegetables to Osaka City, but it is also undergoing significant residential development. It is a key road transport hub at the junction of the Kinki and Nishi-Meihan Expressways and the Hanshin Expressway, and is passed through by the Osaka Central Circular Route. Area: 16.66 km2 . 大阪府中部,大阪平野の大和川左岸部を占める市。1955年市制。農耕地として古くから開け,古墳や反正天皇の丹比柴籬(たちひのしばがき)宮跡などがある。近鉄南大阪線が通じる松原,天美を中心に発達,繊維・金属機械工業などが盛ん。周辺は大阪市の野菜供給地であるが,宅地化も著しい。近畿・西名阪の各自動車道と阪神高速道路の結節点で道路交通の要衝,大阪中央環状線が通じる。16.66km2。12万4594人(2010)。
