This is one of Aesop's fables. A rabbit and a turtle race, but the fast rabbit takes a break and falls asleep, losing to the turtle. This story was already introduced to Japan in 1593. It is a typical example of an animal race story in old folk tales, and is told in many places. In Japan, there are "The Fox and the Snake," and in Grimm's Fairy Tales 187, there is "The Hare and the Hedgehog." The rabbit, who lost to the turtle, is chased out of the village, but there is also a sequel in which the rabbit is allowed to return to the village after defeating a mountain wolf that demands that the villager hand over their baby rabbit.
