Hanging parrot

Japanese: サトウチョウ(砂糖鳥) - サトウチョウ(英語表記)hanging parrot
Hanging parrot
A general term for birds in the genus Loriculus in the family Psittacidae, order Psittacidae, or one of these species. Total length 10-15cm. A small parrot with a long upper beak and a short tail. Its plumage is green overall, with red or yellow feathers on the top of the head, chest, shoulders, and lower back. Females resemble males, but many lack the red spots on the top of the head and chest. They live in flocks in sparse forests, forest edges, and gardens with many trees, and prefer to eat sweet fruit, sometimes causing great damage to orchards. They hold fruit in their long upper beak and use their lower beak and tongue to skillfully tear it apart and eat it.
