A song book from the early Edo period. Five volumes. Published in Kyoto in 1703 (Genroku 16). Compiled by Shushoken. The editor's biography is unknown, but the preface states that the book's title is named after the editor. It is the first collection of lyrics for early modern shamisen songs that had been handed down by professional performers (blind performers) in Kamigata, making it a valuable book in the history of song and Japanese music. The first volume is made up of 21 shamisen group songs and "The Secret Songs to be Transmitted," the second volume is made up of 50 long songs, the third volume is made up of 73 short songs, the fourth volume is made up of 21 Azuma Joruri songs such as Handayu-bushi, and the fifth volume is made up of Kokin Hyakushu Nagebushi (a 100-poem collection of poems) and "Uta Onsei Naborae Samisen Hikikata Kokoroe." In the following year, 1804 (the first year of the Hoei era), Oki Sentoku published "Ochibashu," a seven-volume collection that acts as a supplement to this work, and contains illustrated lyrics of mainly theater songs, dance songs, and popular songs.
