Motobu Peninsula

Japanese: 本部半島 - もとぶはんとう

A peninsula in the northwest of Okinawa Island, Okinawa Prefecture, jutting out into the East China Sea. It is part of Yanbaru (Kunigami). It is part of Motobu Town, Nakijin Village, and Nago City. It is made up of old strata called the Motobu Formation and the Yonamine Formation, and forms a mountain range with a land mass at the center of Katsuu-dake (452m) and Yaedake (453m). The plateau, centered around Izumi in Motobu Town, is covered with pineapple fields. The area around Bisezaki at the tip of the peninsula is beautiful, and was the main site of the 1975 International Ocean Expo.

沖縄県，沖縄島北西部，東シナ海に突出した半島。山原（やんばる。→国頭）の一部をなす。本部町，今帰仁村，名護市に属する。本部層，与那嶺層と呼ばれる古い地層からなり，嘉津宇岳（452m），八重岳（453m）を中心に地塊状の山地をなす。本部町の伊豆味を中心に台地一面はパイナップル畑となっている。半島の先端備瀬崎一帯は景観に優れ，1975年国際海洋博覧会の主会場となった。
