A poet active mainly in Austria in the first half of the 13th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. His name, "The Ropemaker," suggests he was of common descent, and his style of writing has earned him the distinction of being the first commoner poet in the German-speaking world. Although he also wrote full-length epics, his forte was his short epic poems, "Fabliau," which combined entertainment and moral teaching, and he preferred to write about the relationships between men and women and between husband and wife, from a different perspective to chivalric literature. His most famous work is a series of adventure stories starring the cunning and mischievous monk Amis, whose character would later be associated with "Till Eulenspiegel." 13世紀前半に主としてオーストリアで活躍した詩人。
