Japanese: マツカレハ(松枯葉) - マツカレハ（英語表記）Dendrolimus spectabilis

An insect of the Lepidoptera, Lasiocampidae family (illustration). Wing span is 4-6 cm in males and 6-8 cm in females. The forewings have three white bands, the central one is serrated, and the outer edge bands are lined with blackish brown markings. In males, the area between these two bands is reddish brown. The abdomen and hind wings are reddish brown like dead leaves. There is variation in size and color markings, but generally the forewings are darker in females. Distributed throughout Japan, they emerge once a year in summer, but emerge twice in the Ryukyu Islands and southern Izu Islands, where adults are small and the markings on the forewings are unclear.

鱗翅目カレハガ科の昆虫（イラスト）。翅の開張は，雄で4～6cm，雌で6～8cm。前翅には白帯が3本あり，中央の帯は鋸歯状，外縁部の帯の外側には黒褐色紋を連ねる。雄ではこれら2帯の間が赤褐色。腹部や後翅は枯葉のような赤褐色をしている。大きさ，色彩斑紋には変異があり，一般に前翅は雌のほうが黒っぽい。日本全国に分布し，年1回夏に羽化するが，南西諸島や伊豆諸島南部では2回発生し，成虫は小型で，前翅の斑紋が不明りょうとなる。
